Themba’s First Day at the Market
Themba woke up early on Saturday morning. Today was special β it was his first time helping his grandmother sell vegetables at the Soweto market. He was excited but also a little nervous.
“Don’t worry, my child,” Grandmother smiled. “Just watch and learn. The market is a wonderful place where people come together.”
When they arrived, the market was already busy. Colorful fruits and vegetables were displayed on tables. Themba helped arrange the fresh tomatoes, spinach, and potatoes. A woman in a blue dress stopped at their table.
“How much for the tomatoes?” she asked.
“Ten rand per bag,” Grandmother replied kindly.
The woman smiled and bought two bags. Themba felt proud when Grandmother let him give the change. As the morning went on, more customers came. Themba learned how to greet people politely and answer questions about the vegetables.
By lunchtime, they had sold almost everything. “You did very well today,” Grandmother said, patting his shoulder. “You’re a natural businessman!”
Themba beamed with pride. He couldn’t wait to come back next Saturday.
Themba se Eerste Dag by die Mark
“Moenie bekommerd wees nie, my kind,” het Ouma geglimlag.
‘n Vrou in ‘n blou rok het by hul tafel stilgehou.
“Jy is ‘n natuurlike sakeman!”
